All right, so where did we leave off? That's right, I flew back home and landed in Philadelphia. My friend Ally picked me up at the airport, and then we went back to my house for a cosplay crafting filled few days! Ally has been spending a lot of time working on her Queen of the Dark Forest Barbie design, and you should definitely check out her progress! It's her first major costume build, and she's handling it like a CHAMP. GJ FAM <3 GET ME A COSTUME, YOU SWINEAs for me, I had decided to create a genderbent version of Voldemort from A Very Potter Musical. Why? More like WHY NOT.
The most time-intensive part was making the harness for the cloak. Let me tell you, harness engineering is *not* something that can be taken lightly. This harness was *not* engineered well, given the time constraints, and I ended up having to hike it up all night at the wizard party. It also became painful after about an hour. BUT I still made a harness. WOOp. It was patterned by pinning spare graph paper to my dress form. You know, as you do.
I think that the harness will be fine once I add a front strap to it, but I decided it wasn't worth it at the time. Finally, I finished the harness (which annoyingly took the same amount of time as tHE ENTIRE REST OF THE COSTUME), then gave it a quick test run with the nude bra, the leggings, and the tap shoes! Eat your heart out, Joe Walker. When your costume is done*I'm also still continuing progress on Art Nouveau Katara, though I technically already had a photoshoot. Whoops. The main stuff left is grinding out most of the details. Basting down lace, painting the skirt, that sort of stuff. Oh, and making the headdress.
The rest of the wig is pulled into a is a simple flipped ponytail. The remainder of the ponytail was then plaited into a five-strand braid. Unfortunately it's really difficult to get good photos of the braid because it's so dark, so check out the videos below to get an idea of how I styled it.
Before I knew it, it was time to pack up and leave for MAGFest! There are still some things I need to fix on Katara, but that's for the Katsucrunch. Foisting my problems onto Later Ginny always works out, after all -_- Speaking of later Ginny, we're not going to have a new post for a week or so due to MAGFest and the AAS meeting I am attending! I won't have much time for cosplay crafting. Make sure to keep an eye out for the MAGFest recap, coming to you sooooon~
