Pleat Save MeThis week, I started the long, tedious process of draping the chiffon on the bodice. Each section had to be individually pleated and pinned to the corset, so it was a bit of a project.
On Tuesday, about 1/4 of the way through the process, I was feeling really down on my fabric choice. I’ve been using the chiffon at night in my very warm-colored house, and the fabric looked almost like a grey metallic color. To reinvigorate myself, I put my dress form outside in the morning before I left for work. The difference in the lighting was like night and day. (Literally?) Heh. This was encouraging me, and I returned to my pleating! Once the back panels were done, I gave it a quick try on (and accidentally lost a few pins in the process). But other than that, it was looking really good! It's sitting a little low here, but you get the idea. LOOK AT THE PRETTIES!
Bond. Heat'n'Bond.I also spent some time this week experimenting on the skirt design. I was looking for an option that would be time-effective (no hand embroidery) and/or not cost an arm and a leg (commission someone’s embroidery machine), but would still look fancy. One thought I had was to use heat’n’bond on organza. I’ve done this before with the stars on my Twilight Sparkle chiffon skirt. However, I wanted to use my friend Sara’s Cricut machine to cut the design, because, well… it’s more than a little complicated. According to the internet, only Heat’n’Bond Ultrahold works for that; the Lite version doesn’t hold onto the fabric well enough for a Cricut machine to cut effectively. So I got some Ultrahold and tested it with some scrap organza and my chiffon fabric… … and I hated it. The heat’n’bond destroyed the drape of the chiffon and the sparkle of the organza. So it looks like I’ll be painting it on. T_T Maybe I’ll make it a gradient paint job to add some interest? I haven’t 100% decided on the final approach yet. That's All Folks! That's it for this week! Check back next week after I've been driven insane by hand sewing lace onto the dress. k? k.
