Twilight Sparkle

The stars on my dress need to be technically accurate.

If I had to choose my favorite pony from the Mane 6 (obviously Luna reigns supreme), I would be completely torn between Twilight Sparkle and Rarity. I follow in Twilight's study habits and nerdiness, but I also enjoy the fun challenge that making and designing costumes presents, much like Rarity. So I decided to create the dress that Rarity made for Twilight for the Grand Galloping Gala! It was a good compromise.

And yes, the stars on the dark blue chiffon are technically accurate! Each fabric star is surrounded by rhinestones that form constellations: Orion, Cassiopeia, Aquila, Leo, Andromeda, and more are recreated on the bottom layer. The top layer features a reproduction of Draco (for Spike). It's the little things that make the costume special, y'know?

  • Dress
The dress skirt is made from JoAnn's matte satin. The bodice is also made from JoAnn matte satin, but layered with a sparkly (heh, see what I did there?) crystal organza. The overskirt is made from two layers of royal blue chiffon, finished with a rolled hem. The dress is lined with a purplish pink polyester satin.

Detailing was added by heat-n-bonding fabric stars to the dress in various weights & textures. Rhinestones and silver star cutouts soon followed. The rhinestones were carefully placed on the blue overskirt with E6000. For the underskirt, I scattered them on top and glued them where they fell.

  • Horn & Ears
The horn and ears are made of model magic. They are sealed with several layers of mod podge for strength and painted with acrylic paint. The ears are held on to  the wig via neodymium magnets that are attracted to a headband with magnets that is placed underneath the wig. The horn is held on by a magnet that is attracted to a metallic bead that clips into my hairline.

  • Accessories
    - The wig is from Amazon (and really nice quality too; super thick and easy to untangle!)
    - The purple gloves are recycled from my Princess Luna cosplay
    - The necklace is organza ribbon with a silver star from JoAnn
    - The tights are from We Love Colors
    - Shoes are from my high school prom!
    - I also have a Spike plushie from Amazon! I gave him a sparkly red bow tie made of ribbon scraps.
