Hercules

"I happen to be... a hero!"
Picture
Source
Disney's Hercules
Premiered
New York Comic Con 2015
Creation Time
3 months
Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies. Daring adventure, an honest but sometimes clueless hero, blatant disregard and parody of Greek myth... It's generally pretty awesome.

I actually made this costume for my college friend, Kyle, but he was gracious enough to let me steal it back for a few pictures!! It actually came together really easily and was super comfy to wear.

  • Tunic and Cape
Made from Spandex House matte milliskin in Copper and a brown two-way stretch knit from JoAnn. The pattern was drafted from an old tank top, and the skirt is a simple paneled skirt made of trapezoidal bits of fabric. The gold rope, again from JoAnn, is hand-stitched to the tunic. Detailing and shadows were added with shoe polish.

The cape is a blue cotton sateen from JoAnn, constructed using two cutouts of the same pattern piece and folding them together. Dimension was added along the top edge by sewing a channel into the fabric and stuffing it with polyfill. The cape is detachable from the costume using the big brown buttons.

  • Sword
The sword, made by Kyle, is pink insulation foam with a wooden dowel inside it for structural integrity. It's sealed with wood glue and spray-painted.

  • Accessories
    - The bracers, and belt are 2mm craft foam ironed & painted to look like leather and decoratively stitched with embroidery floss. They close with neodymium magnets. The gold medallion is 6mm craft foam that was carved with an x-acto knife and heated to make the design stand out.
    - The Hercules wig is an Inigo in Copper from Arda Wigs.
    - The "Megcules" wig is a Jeannie + curly clip in Mahogany from Arda Wigs.
