I've gushed on several of my other costumes about how much I love Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the argument still holds. Best show ever made, hands down. And Katara is the best character of all time. I'll fight you about it. 
This is the third design of Hannah Alexander's that I've made, and it's by far the most intensive. I custom-made a bunny suit from scratch, hand-sewed hundreds of pleats, and Frankenstein-ed several lace appliqués to bring the costume to life!
Construction Notes
  • Dress
    The dress is built on top of a steel-boned bunny suit that took four fittings to match my body exactly. The fashion fabrics include a metallic polyester chiffon, hand-dyed silk gauze, and matte satin. The bodice is chiffon hand-pleated onto the bunny suit with a gathered skirt hand sewn underneath it.

    The detailing on the bodice is all handsewn lace appliqués, and the detailing on the skirt is hand-painted. Everything is topped off with a smattering of halfback pearls and rhinestones.
  • Jewelry
    All jewelry is a combination of mother-of-pearl, stone beads, glass seed beads, and shells. The necklace was dyed with RIT dye and hand-carved with the Water Nation insignia.

    The headdress hooks directly into the lace of the wig and is made with Fireline to keep it from breaking -- It had to be remade because threads kept snapping!
  • Wig
    The wig is a discontinued ombré lace front from Pose Wigs. Extra Warm Dark Brown Arda wefts were added to increase the length of the wig and really bring out the ombré.

    The wig is styled into a long loop braid with a hair flower adorning the top. Both are fairly easy styles to learn and style in hotel rooms!
