Cinder Fall

I want to be strong. I want to be feared. I want to be powerful.

Cinder was always in control when we saw her in RWBY. Always playing the field, always three steps ahead of the protagonists, working in the dark with ruthless cunning and more than a smidge of sexiness.

But *spoiler alert* that all changed when Ruby activated her silver eyes. Cinder has lost her looks, her voice, and her dignity. Even though she hasn't had much screen time in volume four, I have a feeling she's going through a lot of turmoil and it's all going to boil to the surface sooner rather than later.
Working on a Cinder cosplay? I developed a pattern set for you!

  • Dress
I used 4-way stretch velvet in  Dark Red from Fabric Wholesale Direct. I custom-patterned the entire dress by extending the Simplicity 1036 shirt pattern into a dress. I then free-handed the patterns for the cutout, collar, and sleeve.

The gold detailing is in a dark gold costume polyester satin I picked up from JoAnn's ages ago! I custom patterned the detailing in Photoshop, then printed out the patterns to scale and transferred them to the satin. I cut out the satin with a soldering iron -- because it was polyester, the edges melted instead of fraying!. I then hand-sewed the trim down, making sure to turn the melted edge under. This was easily the most time-consuming part of this costume, taking over 20 hours!
  • Wig
The wig is a Jareth in Natural Black from Arda Wigs, but with heavy editing. I swapped the wefts in the front for the wefts in the back so that I would have longer bangs, then cut and styled the wig with heat and got2b products until it sat where I wanted! I also added a bit of a lace square to the part of the wig to imitate Cinder's weird side part.
  • Accessories
    - The mask is double-layered black Worbla, heat formed to my face. It's primed with Elmer's glue and painted with a metallic black spray paint.
    - The glove is four-way stretch black pleather with an EVA foam cuff.
    - The leg details are actual rope, supported with styrene and attached using velcro.
    - The gem is more EVA foam, painted with the same metallic black spray as the mask. I hot-glued these feathers onto the back of the gem!
  • Final Details
    - The scar prosthetic was created with Elmer's school glue and toilet paper. It was then colored with foundation and lipstick and set with ELF
    - The contacts are the Revo Contacts in Manson Orange, ordered from honeycolor.com.
