I was immediately drawn to Artemis because of her attitude and badassery. She’s determined, fierce, sassy, and confident, although she definitely has her moments of weakness and uncertainty. I identified with her tentativeness to let people in, to trust them, and to learn that it’s okay to be vulnerable sometimes.

This costume was my first time working with major props! I made a quiver and a bow, and learned a lot along the way. I did a write-up on how I made the quiver on my blog.

  • Clothes
The clothes are made of a two-way stretch green pleather and a 4-way stretch spandex.  I made the pattern for the top by wrapping myself in saran wrap and duct tape and drawing the necessary lines. The pants pattern was salvaged from a pair of old jeans that fit me that I cut apart.

The pants have a lapped zipper in the front, while the top has detatchable plastic zipper running up the spine.

  • Mask
The mask was made from craft foam glued together with contact cement and covered with more of the stretch pleather. It goes all the way around the head and fastens underneath the ponytail.

  • Bow
The bow is primarily insulation foam that was wrapped in masking tape, Plasti-dipped, and painted with acrylics. The thin lime green parts are foamcore board (that died after a single convention, hurr hurr). The black pulleys are old ribbon spools painted black. The bow is strung with a black elastic cord so that I could still nock and draw an arrow without actually presenting a threat of hurting somebody.

  • Accessories
    - The wig is a Jasmine in Yellow from Arda.
    - The armband and gloves are more of the green pleather.
    - The belt is elastic with an EVA foam buckle decoration.
    - The kneepads are volleyball kneepads with extra EVA foam detailing
    - The boots were given to me by my roommate.
    - The quiver has a full write-up on my blog!
