Alolan Marowak

It has transformed the spirit of its dear departed mother into flames, and tonight it will once again dance in mourning of others of its kind.

So confession time: my first Pokémon game was Pokémon Go. I never had a video game system or TV growing up, so I was never exposed to the games or anime. And without the source material, the trading card game didn’t hold much appeal. But I have been a pretty avid Pokémon Go player, and as soon as I saw the design for the Alolan Marowak, I knew I wanted to do a gijinka.
This costume still isn’t quite finished; I want to add more pieces (arm wraps, necklaces, play with skirt textures) and create a glowing bone staff with programmed LEDs. It should be a really fun adventure, but in the meantime, this still makes for a fun and spooky costume to wear.
Construction Notes
  • Clothing
The swimsuit and beaded hip scarf were purchased from Amazon. The sleeve was an old nylon that I cut holes into. The skirt is black lace fabric scraps tied onto a simple ribbon and knotted around the waist.

  • Accessories
The helmet is made of EVA foam, and the pattern was originally drafted by forming a large rough sculpt of tin foil and masking tape. You can purchase this pattern in my store!
