Sibyll Trelawney
"The Inner Eye does not See upon command!"
I was completely obsessed with Harry Potter as a child. You could probably say that it was my introduction to cosplay; I went to every single movie premiere as well as the book 5, 6, and 7 premieres in costume. I've made a few other characters -- Cho Chang, Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood, and Peeves the Poltergeist -- but Trelawney is my absolute favorite character to cosplay from the Harry Potter universe. There is nothing I love more than going around and predicting the doom of others as vaguely as possible.
I was not a fan of Sibyll's movie outfit; it's comprised of dark greens and browns and very earthy. However, the book describes her as "a large, glittering insect," and I took that to heart while designing this look. Construction Notes; click to expand
Much of this costume is thrown together from my closet; I was intrigued by Romani and belly dance aesthetics in high school, so many of those spare clothing items made their way into the costume. The crystal ball is just a 8" acrylic sphere that was stuffed with Halloween spider webs and bits of tinfoil to add dimension. It also lights up using multicolor tea lights! |
